Falcon Win's Quiz

0105Quiz.jpg (13214 bytes)

Falcon’s winning team of "Pheasant Pluckers" thinking hard. The winning team was Andy Clarke, Arnold Lane, Dave Nash and Julie Fleet (who is hiding behind Arnold!).

There were five teams taking part in the quiz at Heath and Reach on 16th June where Falcon were challenged by Milton Keynes Motor Club. Organisation was in the hands of the Parsons family with John as Cof C and Chief Marshal and Dot Secretary of the Meeting and Club Steward. Falcon’s team of "Pheasant Pluckers" went in to the lead on round one and stayed there for the whole evening.

The questions were a mix of motoring and non-motoring and some of the results were quite fascinating. There was a round where you had to come up with the advertising strap lines used by manufacturers of "boring modern cars". About half the entry new that Vauxhall were "raising the standard" yet nobody identified Ford as the company that "deserves a closer look". I wonder if back in Detroit they realise how ineffective all those advertising dollars are! It’s not that our competitors don’t watch any TV. They all knew that Leo McKern played "Rumpole of the Bailey"! Contestants did a lot better when it came to Motorsport and we nearly had a few clean sheets on these sections. Not quite though as our competitors got their yanks a bit confused. Question 10.3 asked, "Which American driver was World Champion driving a Ferrari?" and 10.4 "Who is the only other American to be F1 World Champion". Guess what, they all had Mario Andretti as the Ferrari driver and Phil Hill as the other yank. Of course it was Phil who won with the Prancing Horse back in 1961. Although Mario did race Enzo’s cars he won his world title in one of Colin Chapman’s Lotus’.
